Supercell in Chicago- Maddie C.

The supercell didn't hit us too hard in Evanston IL, I remember there being lots of rain, and wind. However, my friend in a nearby suburb, Oakdale saw a house across from them getting completely broken apart. Thankfully no one was in the house at the time, having been long abandoned, but she said it was scary. She sent me pictures of a tree fallen on the house and the windows broken. "The tornado, with peak winds of 75 mph, left a path length of approximately 1.9 miles with a maximum width of 60 yards." -cbsnews. Usually in Illinois you can be assured there will be tornado warnings, but actually have such a strong storm come through is more rare.

My family would go inside our neighbor's basement during those times, and wait out the warnings. I was surprised to see that it was so strong. Thankfully no one died from the supercell but it was certainly something.

The wind damaged a lot of buildings and in our yard there was a power outage for a couple of days. Nothing compared to other suburbs where there were buildings with broken debris everywhere.
